英語で:A while age, the Tokyo-Edo Museum hosted a demonstration of karakuri puppets in movement. These mechanical dolls were developed during the Edo period. Spring powered ones are capable of more complicated movements, like archery.

Emperor

On the Emperor’s birthday the Japanese people have the opportunity to wish him well at the imperial palace in Tokyo. Last December was the last time one could do this for Emperor Akihito, as he will abdicate this year.

Judging from the crowd walking towards the palace, quite a few people decided to go this time.

Wakame Soup

Wagyu

英語で Outside of Japan there are some rumours on the luxurious treatment of cows before they get cut into wagyu beef, varying from daily massages to a special diet which includes nihonshu. Whether or not these rumours are true, the resulting meat is rather special, ideal for yakiniku (fried meat).
